The Phoenix Troop held a weekend Camp based at Rushen Scout Hall in Port Erin over the 8. – 9. May 2015. We only had nine Scouts on Camp, as many of our younger members were off on a five day school trip the day after the camp finished.
It was pretty wet on the Friday Night and after everyone had sorted their kit out, we went out in the rain and watched a bit of the rally that was taking place in Port Erin. We didn’t stay out too long as it wasn’t really that interesting. Back in the hall we did a bit of map and compass work, before heading out to a local glen for a wide game. Later on and after supper, the Scouts were all in bed and asleep well before midnight.
On the Saturday after breakfast and kit inspection, the Scouts made their packed lunched and we headed off to Eary Cushlin by minibus, where we met some more of our members. We hiked from Eary Cushlin down to Glen Maye and back again, a distance of around 8 miles. luckily the weather was fine and warm. This hike qualifies all that went on it for the Jamboree on the Trail Badge (JOTT). Back at Eary Cushlin, we found the road closed due to the rally, so we ended up being stuck for thirty minutes longer that we had originally planned, this however gave the Scouts a bit of time to build some bivouacs in the nearby plantation. Once the road was open we headed into Douglas and after a quick ice-cream, we spent a couple of hours at Hot Rocks Indoor Climbing Centre. Back at Rushen Scout Hall and after tea, it was time for a movie, but after a short time a fault developed on the memory card the movie was stored on and our cinema evening had to be abandoned, so it was outside and more wide games. Everyone was in bed and asleep by just after 11pm.
On Sunday the Scouts were given a lie in until 8am and as a special treat bacon sandwiches were provided with breakfast. We then headed off to Castletown for swimming at the Southern Pool. Back at Port Erin and after lunch, kit was packed away and the hall given a tidy, before we spent and hour with games outside after which the Scouts were collected by their parents.
