Over the weekend 18th – 20th March 2016, Manannan Cub pack held a weekends Cub Camp at 1st Malew Scout Hall. We all met on Friday at the Scout Hall and after dropping of the bags in the Scout Hall, we walked to Polsoum Park in Castletown along the millennium way. Once we had arrived at the park, we played a few games in the park and played a game on man hunt. It was getting late, so we hiked back for hot chocolate and a late film which finished around 12.00. It was then time for bed and after a few hours most of the Cubs were asleep.
On Saturday we were up early for breakfast, we had time to play football and cricket in the local primary school before heading to Laser Mayhem for the mornings activities. Once we had arrived at Laser Mayhem we split into 2 teams for the morning, the winning team was the Blues (4-3), everyone had a great time and the Leaders also joined in the activity as well. After we had ran through the plantation, shooting our team mates with the laser guns it was time for lunch, everyone was glad to sit down and have a peaceful lunch. We had time to do some bivouac building in the plantation, and split into 3 times to make some bivouacs, all the Cubs did really well with this. In the afternoon we headed to the NSC for a couple of hours of swimming, even after the swimming some of the cubs were still not clean, however they had a good time in the pool. It was time for dinner so we headed to McDonalds which went down very well with the Cubs. In the evening we played some games at the Scout Hall before settling down for a movie, all the Cubs were asleep by 10.30pm so the Leaders were able to get a decent night’s sleep too.
Sunday was another early start for the leaders and the cubs, after Ruby & Lola (Akela’s Dogs) had woken everyone up, it was time for breakfast and packing up the gear. After we had breakfast we travelled to Archallagan for a morning of Orienteering & Geocaching, we managed to find a few orienteering markers but no success in the geocaches, however the Cubs had a good morning. We had lunch at the local school before heading back for a game on non-stop cricket before heading home for the day.
This camp was a success and the comments from parents always help, I would like to thank the Leaders for the help during the weekend (Rob, Dan & Mark). The weather was dry which helped with the activities and we had a good bunch of kids what more can we ask for.
