On Sunday 13th October Manannan Cubs embarked on a geocache hike starting at Groudle Beach car park and finishing at the Scout Hall. Akela explained that geocaching was a worldwide treasure hunt and told the Cubs of different types of containers that were hidden. Whilst waiting for the final few to arrive Akela and Charlotte showed the Cubs how to use the geocaching app on their phones and the Cubs set off following the compass to find the first geocache of the day. After a bit of climbing and routing around the cache was soon found and treasure swapped. We then continued on our walk through Groudle and Molly Quirks Glen finding a couple more on the way. Cubs then decided they were hungry, so we walked along a footpath towards the reservoir where we sat eating our lunch, though it was very windy!
On our walk around the top of the reservoir we bumped into the Group Scout Leader and Diesel on a walk and they joined us for our next find. We had chance for one last find of the day though it wasn’t where Akela had previously seen it, and where the GPS signal took us, thankfully our Young Leader had seen it further up the path so returned with the Cubs to it’s actual home. We then walked back to the Scout Hall, through the glen and had a quick game of non stop cricket before parents came to pick up. All Cubs worked well in following the compasses and searching for the treasure, the weather certainly helped too! A good day had by all.
